Hokies in Hogwarts; 2017.July.5

First of all... Happy Independence Day!!!!
It is HOT here in Blacksburg, VA. I've never been inside a sauna, but I no longer need to imagine it. Nor do I ever want to be this sweaty ever again! It is very humid here, so it's very muggy. It's like walking through pre-sweat. Sound gross? It is. Yech! The week started out pretty great- last p-day had the biggest piece of pizza in my life! It took up two plates and is called the Virginia Slice. Thinkin of you, Da!
Miracle of the week-- So by the end of the previous week I was broke. Had no money in my mission account at all. Zilch. Nada. None. Except, I had the feeling to check my account again. Which is ridiculous. I was broke! Except I wasn't... When I checked my account I has $42! Enough to buy groceries and quarters for laundry. I swear, there is a financial angel over one of my shoulders.... :) #blessed

Sister Bingham and I discovered a garden on campus. We help companionship study there and it was so peaceful, and cooler there because of the shade!! Loved it so much. We have bonded with a family here, the Hirsh's. Sister Hirsh is one of the wards service representatives, and spends all her time serving the community. We worked with her on some gardens, and will continue this service until winter. I'm so excited! Her husband, Brother Hirsh, is actually Jewish and a professor of technology at Virginia Tech. He is hillarious! I love the Hirsh's so much :)

Bought some magnets last week to keep my skirts from billowing up when we ride our bikes. Actually quite effective. Completely wore out my first pair of prosalyting shoes this week. They have been falling apart for a while now, but we had a cloudburst yesterday that decided it. I am now wearing my boots until we go on exchanged tomorrow, when we go to a Walmart down in Christiansburg. Ah, the adventure! Our recent convert, Brother Rubio was ordained with the Aaronic priesthood this week, and went to the Washington D.C. Temple on Saturday! He loved it and was baptized for nine ancestors. He takes his big english test this Saturday and returns home to Columbia on the fifteenth.

As Blacksburg is a town built around the university, most attractions here are student based. You know what that means... INSOMNIA COOKIES! That's right, there is a bakery here that delivers cookies and milk until 3am. Sister Bingham and I ordered some ice cream a little after curfew. Made me so happy! Sad I didn't think of it first :) Monday we hiked the Cascades with Sister Stucki and the sister missionaries from Christiansburg. Way awesome! Reminded me of home. The rocks and trees were covered with moss(as they should be) and there were ferns EVERYWHERE(as there ought to be). Smelled like Silver Falls. Man, I was just sooo happy!

I gotta testify- God knows when we need a pick-me-up, and He knows the perfect way to do it, too. We weren't really sure how our Fourth of July would go. Seems like the entire town went to Grandma's for the day, and Blacksburg was a ghost town. We baked cookies to deliver to our investigators, but it was a hit and miss if they were even there. We had a BBQ at the Hirsh's, but other than that, we just had nothing to do and no one to see. It was difficult, feeling so unproductive on the Lords time. Then we were blessed. Well, at least I was, I think sister Bingham was pretty miserable... IT RAINED! The hot and muggy Independence Day turned into the perfect rain storm! At first is sprinkled, then it bucketed! I loved it! We got soaked of course, and our shoed filled with so much water our toes got wrinkly. But it was perfect. I know, I'm strange. Rain on the Fourth of July? That's a disaster, right? Not to me :) I knew the good Lord made it rain just for me. I was so happy, my face hurt from smiling. It smelled like nitrogen (love that smell!) and was damp and cool. God expresses His love for me in a very different way, but He always know that a change in the weather will get my attention. I thanked Him so hard last night, that I even woke up around 2 am back on my knees in prayer! Ah. Life is good. I am blessed :)
